CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois soccer (1-0-3) tied Saint Louis (2-1-1), 1-1, on Thursday night in Demirjian Park.
Cayla Jackson opened the scoring in the 20th minute of the match to put Illinois in front early off a centering pass from Alyssa White that Jackson put in the top left corner of the net. It's Jackson's second goal of the season and White's second assist on the year.
Saint Louis' Audrey Smith would find the equalizer in the 53rd minute which led to the eventual tie, the third of the season already for Illinois and the Billikens first.
Izzy Lee made five saves with the biggest one coming in the 71st minute as the Saint Louis striker was driving hard right before shooting back to her left, but Lee dove in time to keep the score knotted at one. Presli Houk made her Illini debut tonight.
Illinois was outshot by Saint Louis 9-2 and 6-1 in shots on goal, there were 21 combined fouls in the match. Tonight's attendance was 537.
The Illini hit the road for the first time this season next week when they head to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on Western Michigan on Thursday (Sept. 3) at 6 p.m. CT.
