September 3, 2026 | Soccer
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Illinois soccer team (2-0-3) won 3-0 against Western Michigan (2-1-2) on Thursday night at the WMU Soccer Complex.
Ashley Stellon opened the scoring in the 10th minute after Hedda Ornberg played the ball in the box to Ashlyn Adams who passed it to Stellon as she deflected it into the back of the net. The goal officially was an own goal as Stellon's deflection hit the Broncos player's foot before it dribbled into the net. This is Stellon's second goal of her career and her first since Aug. 18, 2024, when she scored against DePaul.
Cayla Jackson continued to lead the Illini offense scoring again tonight in the 25th minute to put the Illini up 2-0. It's her third goal on the season so far and her second-straight match with a goal. Ornberg later would strike in the 52nd minute to extend the Illini lead, 3-0, after a pass from Ashlyn Adams led to the wide open chance.
Izzy Lee made three saves to record her third clean sheet of the season. Illinois held a 9-8 advantage in shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Fighting Illini soccer team is back in action on Sunday (Sept. 6) with a match on the road at Virginia Tech at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN+.
