Primary Position Function:

These positions are PART TIME and event based which means you work what fits your schedule! Whether you're looking for work experience in the sports industry or extra income, Rhino allows you to sign up online for any available shifts that fit your availability. These are fast-paced, fun events that will keep you on your toes!

Positions Available:

  • Ushers
  • Ticket Scanners

Expectations:

  • Available to work ALL home football games in addition to training sessions
  • 18 years of age
  • Strong communication skills
  • Offer the highest level of customer service for all patrons in the Premium Seating areas
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance
  • Ability to efficiently problem solve

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that patrons have proper ticket or credential for access to premium spaces
  • Effectively and efficiently handle patrons' concerns as they arise
  • Enhance guests' game day experience
  • Demonstrate understanding of policies and procedures within premium space(s)
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for all guests

Work Environment:

  • Will be spending a considerable duration of time standing/walking
  • Will work as part of a team to ensure the best experience for guests

Armory Track & Floor Cashier/Floor Supervisor

Primary Function – Assist with operations of the Armory Track and Floor during public use hours and all events hosted inside the facility.

Semester Hours of Staffing (Seasonal, October – April):

Monday – Friday:  5:45am-10pm/12am
Saturday – Sunday:  7:45am – 5:00pm

*hours will vary depending on nature of events hosted in the space

Break Period Hours of Staffing:

Monday – Friday:  7:45am-10:00pm
Saturday – Sunday: 7:45am – 5:15pm

Qualifications:

  • All undergraduate staff must be enrolled in at least 6 university credit hours per semester at the University of Illinois.
  • Per University of Illinois regulations, all staff must have a bank account for direct deposit.
  • Per NCAA regulations, High School and Junior College students are not eligible for employment at the Armory Track & Floor due to its affiliation with the U of I Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Duties & Expectations: (*Staff are responsible for understanding both duties)

Cashier:

  • Check in patrons ensuring compliance with access.
  • Process financial transactions associated with daily fees.
  • Gain an understanding of the facility to comfortably answer questions pertaining to the facility.
  • Serve additionally as Floor Supervisor when one is not scheduled.
  • Attend periodic staff meetings.
  • Be available for shifts as early as 6am or as late as 12am all days of the week.
  • Maintain a neat & orderly work station utilized by all front desk staff.
  • Respect the needs and requests from fellow coworkers, facility staff, and patrons.
  • Assist with cleaning and organization of the track & floor area

Floor Supervisor:

Monitor all activities taking place on the track and floor.

  • Physically walk around facility ensuring that all activities and equipment are within the policies of the Armory Track & Floor.
  • Verbally confront patrons who are engaging in activities inappropriate for the facility.
  • Move equipment when necessary within supervisor’s ability (up to or more than 50 pounds).
  • Perform cleaning duties within the track & floor area.
  • Monitor and handle all needs of organizations that privately reserve facility.
  • Respect the needs and requests from fellow coworkers, facility staff, and patrons.

Track and Field & Cross Country Meets

  • Assist with setup, operations, and teardown of all collegiate and third-party track and field meets hosted at the Armory Track and Floor.
  • Assist with setup, operations, and teardown collegiate Cross Country (Fall) and Outdoor Track and Field Meets (Spring).

Qualifications

  • Quickly learn and understand the Club Automation software used for all transactions including clinics, leagues, private lessons, court rentals, pro shop merchandise purchases, and special events.
  • Process financial transactions for clinics, leagues, private lessons, court fees, pro shop merchandise purchases, and special events.
  • Open and close the facility as scheduled following all guidelines with the door and alarm system.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Attend periodic staff meetings.
  • Ability to commute to the south part of campus in a reliable and timely manner in all conditions.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance.
  • Accept an active role in learning the expectations and general operations of the facility.
  • Work shifts as scheduled or find a sub when a reoccurring shift cannot be worked.
  • Restring tennis rackets.
  • Problem solve issues regarding on-court activities or pro shop requests.
  • Respect the needs and requests from fellow coworkers, facility staff, and patrons.
  • Maintain a neat & orderly work station utilized by all front desk staff.
  • Straighten, organize, and inventory pro shop merchandise items.
  • Remain compliant with university and Big Ten/NCAA policies and procedures.

Event Management Student Ambassador

Primary Position Function
Illinois Event Management Student Ambassadors are responsible for assisting in the operations of Fighting Illini Athletic Events. 

Expectations

  • Full time undergraduate and graduate student at the University of Illinois
  • Available to work mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to take initiative and have consistent and strong work ethic
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance
    • Including following the assigned dress code
  • Ability to work through various weather conditions and temperatures
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to efficiently problem solve

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the set up and break down of Fighting Illini sporting events
  • Work all home football games
  • Assist with hospitality and customer service for NCAA, B1G and IHSA Championships
  • Support Event Management Staff with day of operations for Olympic Sports
  • Quickly learn and understand game/meet day operations
  • Problem solve issues regarding game/meet
  • Effectively communicate with visiting teams, officials, and other event staff
  • Accept an active role in learning the expectations and general operations of the facility
  • Respect the needs and requests from fellow coworkers, facility staff, and patrons
  • Remain compliant with university and Big Ten/NCAA policies and procedures

Student Internships


Street Team, Fighting Illini Marketing Team

Join the Fighting Illini Marketing Team and gain valuable sports marketing, advertising and event presentation experience. Prepare yourself for a post-graduate career in sports marketing.

Street Team Responsibilities

  • Assist with various marketing and promotional efforts at assigned Fighting Illini athletic events and at events in the Champaign-Urbana community.
  • Assist with the setup of marketing tables (Fighting Illini Fan Headquarters), execute in-game promotions, provide customer service to fans, distribute posters and other marketing materials, and other duties as assigned.
  • Must be available for at least 75% of all events per season (fall, winter and spring); night and weekend availability is necessary.
  • This position will run the duration of the academic year, ending with an evaluation and performance review from Marketing Assistants and full-time staff.
  • Street Team members are unpaid, however, members who excel in the role will be considered for paid positions upon availability.

Room to Grow
After serving as a Street Team member, students can grow their experience by being elevated to the role of Marketing Assistant, which includes secondary roles with assigned sports, office hours and special projects. 

Street Team Expectations

  • Must be a University of Illinois student
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays if needed
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a time sensitive, team-oriented environment
  • Initiative, dedication, and a strong work ethic
