Illinois Baseball Falls in Five-Hour Marathon at Illinois State

RECAP

NORMAL, Ill. – The Fighting Illini fell to Illinois State, 4-1, on Tuesday night at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Ill., in a game that featured two weather delays and spanned nearly five-and-a-half hours.

Sam Mommer got the start, throwing four shutout innings with two strikeouts and only two hits allowed. Ike Young fired a scoreless eighth with three strikeouts.

Illinois opened the scoring in the top of the sixth, but the Redbirds responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. The hosts added another tally in the seventh, which wrapped up the scoring on Tuesday night.
