ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Illinois women's golf completed the opening two rounds of the Coach Mo Classic on Monday evening, finishing the day in fifth place as team.
The Fighting Illini shot a 293 (+5) in the first round, earning their way into third place and sitting six strokes off of host Furman for the lead. Victoria Zheng paced the Orange and Blue in the opening round, carding a 71 (-1), one of just seven players to complete the round under par.
Illinois logged a 296 (+8) in round two to finish the day in fifth place, nine strokes off the leader, Furman, and just two strokes behind No. 12 UCF in fourth. Zheng continued to lead the way with a 74 (+2) in round two, sitting in eighth, followed closely by Anna Ritter, who earned round scores of 72 (E) and 75 (+3), tied for 14th by the end of the evening.
Brielle Mapanao sits tied for 17th after registering a 74 (+2) in both rounds, followed by Alexis Myers in a tie for 24th, who tallied a 76 (+4) and 73 (+1). Myers logged an eagle on hole two, one of just six athletes to do so in the opening rounds.
Through two rounds, the Fighting Illini tallied a 4.17 scoring average on par 4s, the best average of the field, and the second best on par 3s, with a 3.08.
