Day 2 Results
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.— Illinois swim and dive completed day two of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday evening, concluding the day in 13th place, with 114.5 points.
The Illini set the tone from event one, with sophomore Chloe Diner setting a new school record in the 100 butterfly (53.50), and Martina Cibulkova improving on her top-ten time as well (55.01). The previous 100 butterfly record of 53.97 was held by Sydney Stoll (2021-2025).
In the 400 IM preliminaries, current school record holder Sara Jass swam a 4:14.96, which qualified her to the C final. She swam a 4:15.04 to finish sixth in the C final.
In the 100 breaststroke preliminaries, the dynamic duo of Diner and Kayla Duran both qualified themselves for finals, with Diner swimming a 1:00.73 to qualify for the B final, and Duran swimming a 1:01.04 to qualify for the C final.
It was in the 100 breaststroke finals that Diner exploded, swimming a 1:00.26, for a new Illinois record, an NCAA standard cut, and second place in the B final.Â
On the one-meter boards, Matilda Garcia, Elle Crisostomo, Bethany Mercer, and Elleka Boeres competed, with Garcia leading the way with a 235.30.
In the final event of the night, the 200 freestyle relay, Isabella Wilhelm, Maggie Adler, Martina Cibulkova, and Diner posted a top-ten program time, finishing in 1:32.03.
The Orange and Blue will return to action on Friday, Feb. 20 for day three of the Big Ten Championships. Swimming trials commence at noon for 100 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, and 50 freestyle, while diving trials on the three-meter begin at noon. Finals for both swim and dive are slated for 5:30 p.m. on B1G+.
