CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois wide receiver Collin Dixon was added to the Biletnikoff Watch List, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced Wednesday. The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver.
Dixon has been one of the nation's best receivers to date, ranking third nationally in receiving touchdown (8), fourth in receptions (40), and eighth in receiving yards (546). He is one of only three players in the nation to rank in the top 10 in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, along with Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith and Miami's Malachi Toney.
Dixon's eight touchdown receptions are only one behind Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith and Oregon State's Jesse Legree for the national lead and already puts his name sixth in the Illini record books on the season touchdown receptions list. Dixon has already broken Illinois' Gies Memorial Stadium touchdown receptions record with eight through only four home games.
Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back), who catches a pass is eligible for the award. The Biletnikoff Watch List will be cut to semifinalists, then three finalists, then an award winner by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 625 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers.
