The Huskies are coming off a 13-17 season and were picked to finish 13th in the Big Ten prior to the season. Among the returners, junior middle Julia Hunt leads the defense with 48.0 blocks for a team that has held opponents to the third-worst hitting percentage among Big Ten teams. Washington has had an influx of new players as well, with transfer setter Andrea Fabikovicová making quite the impact with six double-doubles thus far and leading the team with 406 assists. Kaitlyn Nguyen was a part of a highly touted freshman class and has looked the part. Wearing the libero jersey, she is ninth in the conference with 3.73 digs/set and recently tied a program record with 26 digs in three sets.
Leslie Gabriel is in her fourth season in Seattle, leading the Huskies after 22 years as an assistant at Washington. Since taking the head coaching role, Washington is 59-44, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2024. In her entire tenure at Washington, Gabriel has 667 wins and has reached five Final Fours, won an NCAA Championship in 2005, coached 27 All-Americans, and was named National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2020.
