Final Results

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team picked up wins over both UIC (198.5-100.5) and the University of Chicago (224-75), while coming up short to host Northwestern, 190-105, Friday night in Evanston. Illinois was led by junior Kristin Anderson, who won both sprint freestyle events, the 50 freestyle (:23.69) and 100 freestyle (:51.30). Freshman diver Taylor Shegos also placed second on 1-meter diving, posting a career-best 261.05.

"The team competed well today," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "We had well over 20 season bests and a couple of lifetime-best times. It is great to see a lot of the athletes making adjustments and being open to make changes to get better. We have a couple of weeks off from racing and we can put in some great work to get ready for our mid-season invitational."

For the second-straight meet, sophomore Jimena Martinez picked up a pair of lifetime-best times. Martinez came away with the top time of her career in the 200 butterfly (2:04.65) to finish second and in the 100 butterfly (:58.41) to place third.

Junior Emily Martin and her freshman sister, Abigail Martin, each secured third-place finishes. Emily clocked a time of 4:42.48 in the 400 individual medley, while Abigail touched the wall in the 1000 freestyle with a season-best time of 10:29.35.

On the boards, senior Ling Kuhn finished in third and fourth place on 3-meter and 1-meter diving, respectively. The Bloomington, Illinois, native scored a 3-meter total of 264.70 and 1-meter score of 235.65. Rumsey placed 9th in 3-meter competition with a 214.60 and 10th on 1-meter with a 179.60.

In addition to her strong performance on 1-meter, Shegos also scored a six-dive total of 186.00 to place 12th on 3-meter.
