Ian Barnett Season Debut
Meet PREVIEW
The Fighting Illini will run in Illinois for the first time since the Illini Challenge as they travel to Rock, Island for a 5:45 pm run in the Brissman-Lundeen Invite.
Coach stewart on the Meet
"We didn't want to put together a schedule that would have a gap of three or four weeks without racing. We put this into the mix this year. It's a course that is going to be comparable to the Big Ten course in that it's on a golf course. It's going to be a chance for some guys to race again, and the more racing some of these guys can do the better. And then, they're going to have on top of that, they're going to have two or three weeks to put a really good race together. I just want us to go up and be competitive, and embrace whatever the race gives us, not having any specific goals in mind other than racing as hard as we can, and progressing towards what our ultimate goals are."
COACH STEWART ON IAN BARNETT MAKING HIS DEBUT
"We want to see Ian just put himself in a position to, in that last mile, ran hard and see if he can come out of it winning a race. His workouts and his progressions have been better week-by-week. Ultimately, we are doing this so he can go into Louisville with a race under his belt."
Illini Set to Run
The Orange and Blue will send seven guys to the meet, highlighted by Ian Barnett's season debut. The senior finished first on the team at last year's Midwest Regional. Joining Barnett will be four runners from the Spartan Invite Jereme Atchison, Joe Cowlin, Jack Driggs, and Garrett Lee. Rounding out the seven will be Alex Gold and Joe McAsey who last ran at the Illini Challenge.
