A guard, Woods helped the 1915 Illini to the only unbeaten season (16-0) in UI history with that squad retroactively named National Champions. He helped lead the Illini to Big Ten titles in 1915 and 1917 while earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors in 1915 and 16, and Second-Team honors in 1917. He captained the 1916 squad. Woods was named to the 25-player Illinois All-Century Team in 2005. The Fighting Illini compiled a record of 42-6 during his three seasons at Illinois. He died in 1965 at age of 70.
