Education:

Armstrong earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science and human performance from Louisiana State University in 2019.

Job Responsibilities:

Armstrong currently oversees and programs all phases of strength and conditioning for Illini softball and the swimming and diving programs at Illinois.

Past Experience: 

Armstrong served as a strength and conditioning intern for Clemson University's Olympic Sports Performance program from August to December of 2022. While there, he gained coaching experience with Clemson's 14 Olympic sport programs.

Prior to Clemson, Armstrong served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at D1 Training Ascension, a private sector facility in Gonzales, La., from December 2019 to August 2022. While there, he worked with a variety of collegiate and professional athletes, general population adults, children, high school teams, and assisted in all aspects of their 2022 NFL Pro Day training program.

Prior to his time at D1 Training Ascension, Armstrong served as a sports performance intern with Traction Sports Performance in Baton Rouge, La., where he observed and assisted with aspects of their 2019 NFL Pro Day Training Program.

Prior to that, Armstrong gained experience as a sports medicine student and physical therapy tech while at LSU.

Personal:

Ryan Armstrong is from Clinton, La., and currently resides in Urbana, Ill. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), CPR/AED/First Aid Certified, and is an Eagle Scout.
