Rian Healy is in his first season as an assistant athletic trainer with the Illinois football program in 2025. He joined the Fighting Illini from Boston College, where he spent three seasons with the Eagles, including his final season as the associate director for sports medicine for the BC football program. 

Prior to coming to the BC, Healy was a seasonal athletic trainer for the New England Patriots for two years where he assisted in maintaining NFL COVID-19 regulations, managing injury tracking and patient documentation. During this time, he also designed and taught virtual clinicals for Lasell University and acted as supervisor for summer athletic training interns. 

Healy is a multi-certified athletic trainer, earning other certifications such as National Provider Identification, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, American Heart Association, and a Boston College graduate certification in student-athlete development. 

He graduated from the University of Illinois in 2017, earning a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology. Following his undergraduate studies at U of I, Healy earned his master’s degree in athletic training from Arkansas in 2020.
