Jason Jones is in his first season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Illinois in 2026. He joined the Illini from Florida, where he spent two seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Gators football team from 2024-25.
Prior to Florida, Jones served as an assistant director of sports performance for the UAB football program for four seasons (2020-23). He helped UAB win the 2020 Conference USA Championship, the 2021 Independence Bowl, and the 2022 Bahamas Bowl during his four seasons on staff.Â
Jones went to UAB after five years at Alabama (2015-19). He was an intern on the strength staff from 2015-16, then spent three seasons as an assistant director of strength and conditioning for the women’s basketball program from 2017-19.
In the summer of 2019, Jones served as the Bill Walsh intern with the Green Bay Packers.
Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in human environment sciences from the University of Alabama in 2015 and a master’s degree, also from Alabama, in sports business management in 2019. He was a walk-on football player for the 2013 Crimson Tide football team that went 11-2 and played in the Sugar Bowl.Â
Jones’ father, Terry Jones Sr., was a strength coach for the Alabama football team for 34 years.
Jones is Cscca-SCCC, USAW, and CPR/AED certified.
