EUGENE, Ore. – The Illinois men's and women's field teams completed the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday (June 11) from Hayward Field. Luuk Pelkmans (decathlon), Sophia Beckmon (long jump) and Jordan Koskondy (hammer throw) left the field today as All-Americans in their events.
Pelkmans shattered the program record in the decathlon today as a freshman with 8,079 points; he placed third to become the program's first ever All-American decathlete. This concludes a stellar freshman campaign for Pelkmans as he was the first freshman heptathlete in school history to earn All-America honors during the indoor season to go with his decathlon honors today. Additionally, he was the Big Ten Outdoor Champion as well in the decathlon, the only freshman in program history to do so.
Beckmon leaped 6.57m (21-6 3/4) in the long jump to place fourth and earn All-America honors for the second-straight outdoor season. She closes her junior campaign with the program's first field event national title indoors, the Big Ten indoor long jump title and with her All-America honor today she's now a four-time All-American.
Koskondy became an All-American in the hammer throw today after she threw the program's second-best mark 69.24m (227-2) to place fifth. She's now only the second hammer throw All-American in program history behind Amber Simpson in 2024. Koskondy closes her junior season earning her first All-America honors both indoors in the weight throw and now outdoors in the hammer throw.
The women reside in eighth place with nine points while the men are in 14th with seven.
