CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini secured an 11-7 midweek win over Roosevelt on Tuesday night at Illinois Field.
An eight-run seventh inning proved the difference, while Sam Mommer tossed three scoreless frames in relief en route to his third victory of the season.
Mommer registered a career-high five strikeouts across the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Ike Young got the start, striking out four in his three innings.
At the plate, Kyle Schupmann went 3-for-5, while Collin Jennings and Jack Zebig both tallied multiple RBI.
With the Lakers holding a lead through six innings, the Orange plated eight in the home half of the seventh while sending 12 batters to the plate.
Mommer closed out the win with back-to-back zeros in the eighth and ninth to seal the Illini's victory.
