URBANA, Ill. — Illinois softball (14-35, 3-16 Big Ten) fell to Penn State in game two of the series, 10-0, in six innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kaylie Walters reached on a leadoff walk and Breanna Hanik smashed a home run to left center field, earning Penn State the early advantage, 2-0.
Karley Yergler retired the side in order in the second, before Allison Oneacre sent a solo home run to left field in the third, increasing Penn State's lead to three runs.
Ava Moore notched a base hit to begin the bottom of the frame, and Alaina Miller advanced her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Brennan reached on an error that pushed Miller to third, but the final pair of outs came before she could score.
Penn State plated one unearned run in the fourth, and six more runs in the top of the sixth to take the 10-0 win in six innings.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Senior Karley Yergler got the nod in the circle on Senior Day, throwing 3.1 innings and conceding four earned runs on six hits.
- Yergler struck out a pair of batters and walked three.
- Abby Sabalaskey went 2.2 innings in relief, conceding just one earned run on five hits and striking out two batters.
- Jackie Yeager was 1-for-2 at the plate with a double, her third of the season.
- Ava Moore was 1-for-2 at the plate, her 23rd hit of the year.
- Ellie Haggard was 1-for-3 at the plate, her 38th hit of the season.
