ROSEMONT, Ill. - Cearah Parchment turned in a stellar week as the Fighting Illini won their second- and third-straight games. For her efforts on the court, the Illinois rookie was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week the league office announced Monday.
The Illini rookie achieved the elusive 50/40/90 shooting numbers across the week while averaging 19.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game against zero turnovers committed. Parchment shot 16-for-25 (64.0%) from the field, 6-for-8 (75.0%) from 3-point range, and 1-1 (100%) from the free throw line. She turned in double-doubles in four-straight games now and owns a Big Ten-leading 11 double doubles on the season.
On Tuesday, Parchment turned in her fifth 20-point game of the season, registering 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, 1 block, and zero turnovers against Rutgers.
Parchment wrapped up the week on Sunday with 19 points, 10 rebounds (4 offensive), 3 assists, 3 steals, and zero turnovers at Northwestern. The Canadian is up to 19 games scoring in double figures this season while starting every Illinois contest.
Parchment has now collected four Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades this season. Four weekly accolades matches Illinois' program record for Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards, held by Karisma Penn during the 2009-10 campaign.
