CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois women's tennis is headed to Fort Worth, Texas, this weekend to compete for the ITA Women's Sectional Championship hosted by TCU. The competition runs from Thursday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 8.
Junior Ariel Madatali and sophomore Lizzie Isyanov will represent Illinois at the tournament, competing in the singles draw against players from teams across the Midwest, Central, and Texas Regions.
The Illini duo advanced to the singles quarterfinals at the ITA Midwest Regionals, with Madatali using four consecutive straight-set victories to progress to the semifinals before falling to the tournament's top seed. Isyanov earned wins against players from Marquette, Ohio State, and Illinois en route to the quarterfinals.
Alice Xu and Tess Bucher are currently an alternate duo for the doubles competition as well.
The single-elimination tournament is the final opportunity during Illinois' fall schedule that serves as a qualifier for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in November.
