CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois swim and dive team is prepared to begin the postseason on Wed.-Sat. (Feb. 19-22) with the Big Ten Championships hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
The Illini have broken seven school records so far this season under third-year head coach Jeana Kempe. Kempe led the squad to a 6-3 overall record going 4-1 in home meets.
Their last meet was a 108-73 win over Eastern Illinois on Feb. 1 in the ARC Pool. Sydney Stoll set two pool records that day in the 50 freestyle (23.08) and the 100 IM (55.51). Her 50 freestyle time was also the seventh-fastest time in program history.
Two other swimmers recorded top-10 marks in this competition: Sara Jass swam the program's second-fastest 100 IM (56.44) and Kalina Nikolaeva swam the sixth-fastest 100 IM (58.40).
Last year at the Big Ten Championships the Illini took 12th place with six individual scorers led by Jass with 19 points, Stoll scored 12, Matilda Garcia had five, Gwen Bakker added three, Bethany Mercer scored two and Kylee Sessions had one.
