TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Illinois swim and dive completed the first session of its double-dual meet against Indiana State and Vanderbilt on Friday evening. The Illini emerged victorious in five of the nine events held on day one, leading Indiana State 100-67 and Vanderbilt 122-42.
Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Chloe Diner and Eva Allan kicked things off for the Fighting Illini, earning gold with a time of 3:45.92 in the 400 medley relay.
Diner and Allan followed up with additional wins in their individual events, as Diner swam a 1:02.26 to bring home gold in the 100 breaststroke and Allan tallied first in the 100 freestyle (51.43). Duran followed just behind Diner in the breaststroke to notch second place (1:03.35).
Diner also earned gold in the the 200 freestyle relay alongside Isabella Wilhelm, Maggie Adler and Sara Jass (1:33.94).
The final individual gold between the lanes came from sophomore Sophia Yousuf in the 200 IM (2:06.46). Teammates Bella Wojtowicz (2:06.28) and Adelaide Reaser (2:07.61) rounded out the podium for the 200 IM in second and third, respectively.
On the boards, Bethany Mercer finished in second (300.68), Elle Crisostomo in third (297.75) and Elleka Boeres in fourth (271.58).
