LINCOLN, Neb. – The Illinois swim and dive team lost their dual to Nebraska 174.5-125.5 on Saturday (Jan. 18). Sydney Stoll won the 100 butterfly with a new school record time of 53.97, topping her previous record by .03 seconds. She also won the 200 freestyle (1:47.54) narrowly missing breaking her own school record by .02 seconds and the 100 freestyle (49.86). She swam six individual races this weekend and came away with golds in all six.
BETWEEN THE LANES
The 200 medley relay team of Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Logan Kuehne, Isabella Wilhelm started the meet off with a silver medal on the program's 10th-fastest time (1:40.66). Paduano would later take second in the 100 backstroke with the program's ninth-fastest time (55.19).
Liv Dorshorst touched first in the 500 freestyle on a time of 4:54.99. She went on to take second in the 1000 freestyle (10:04.86) and Kennedy Rainwater placed third with the program's 10th-fastest time (10:08.64).
Alexis Wendel took silver in the 200 butterfly (2:02.78), Kalina Nikolaeva placed second in the 200 back stroke (2:01.38), Duran touched second in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.41) and Sara Jass claimed second in the 400 IM (4:16.02).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Stoll, Wilhelm, Maggie Adler and Laurel Bludgen closed out the meet with a silver medal (3:23.25).
ON THE BOARDS
Dani O'Kelly once again led the Illinois divers on both the one-meter and three-meter boards. She placed third in the one-meter dive with a score of 273.15 and fourth on the three-meter dive with a personal-best score of 290.93.
Matilda Garcia placed directly behind O'Kelly on the three-meter boards earning her NCAA Zone Cut with a score of 285.00. Garcia also placed fifth on the one-meter boards with a score of 261.15.
