CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois swim and dive team (5-1, 0-1 B1G) is set for their first Big Ten road dual of the season against the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-2, 1-1 B1G) on Friday (Jan. 17) at 11 a.m. CT.
The Orange and Blue are coming off a performance last week against Purdue in which they rewrote five ARC Pool records. Logan Kuehne took down the 50 freestyle record (23.15), Sydney Stoll took down both the 100 freestyle (49.98) and 200 freestyle (1:47.96) records, Sara Jass now owns the 200 IM record (1:59.77) and the 200 medley relay team of Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Kuehne and Isabella Wilhelm set the record (1:40.58).
The 200 medley relay's time also made its mark in the program's top-10 list as the eighth-fastest time. Chloe Diner recorded the program's 10th-fastest 100 butterfly as well clocking in at 55.24 seconds.Â
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Iowa Hawkeyes currently hold a 3-2, 1-1 B1G record on the season being a perfect 2-0 at home. The last time out for Iowa was on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at Miami where they were defeated 199-95. There are no common opponents between Illinois and Iowa so far this season. The last meeting between the two squads was Jan. 12, 2024, where Iowa won 166.5-133.5 in Champaign, Ill. The last win for Illinois came a year earlier on Jan. 14, 2023, with a 216-137 win in Iowa City, Iowa.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers hold a 5-2, 0-2 B1G record on the season so far. Their last dual meet was Dec. 11 against Omaha where they won 169-73. There is one common opponent between Nebraska and Illinois being the Kansas Jayhawks: Nebraska won 182-117 and Illinois won 191-109. The last meeting between the two squads was Jan. 27, 2024, where Nebraska won 169-131 in Champaign, Ill. The last win for Illinois was Jan. 23, 2021 in Lincoln, Neb. 164-136.
