CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois swim and dive teams lost their Big Ten home opener to Purdue, 171-129, on Saturday (Jan. 11) from the ARC Pool. Â
Five ARC Pool swimming records were broken including the 200 medley relay (Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Logan Kuehne, Isabella Wilhelm – 1:40.58), 200 IM (Sara Jass – 1:59.77), 50 freestyle (Kuehne – 23.15) and 100 freestyle/200 freestyle (Sydney Stoll – 49.98/1:47.96).
In addition to their pool record the 200 medley relay's time (1:40.58) ranks as the eighth-fastest time in program history. Chloe Diner also recorded a top-10 program mark when she swam the 10th-fastest 100 butterfly in her second-place finish (55.24).
Matilda Garcia led the way for the Illinois divers on the one-meter boards with her fourth-place finish (268.28). Dani O'Kelly placed fifth (260.48) and Bethany Mercer placed sixth (235.88). O'Kelly earned the silver medal on the three-meter boards (278.40). Carlie Rose placed fourth with a new personal-best score (257.55) and Mercer placed fifth (247.35).
