CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois swim and dive team wrapped up the first day of the House of Paign Invite on Friday (Oct. 25) at the ARC Pool. Freshman Chloe Diner swam the first top-10 program mark of the season with the school's fourth-fastest 100 breaststroke in her event win (1:02.25). She later swam the program's 10th-fastest 100 butterfly in her win (55.40).
After day one Illinois leads Vanderbilt by a score of 99-27 and leads Indiana State 90-39.
BETWEEN THE LANES
The Illini claimed the top-2 spots in the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay. The A team of freshmen Sophia Paduano and Kayla Duran, senior Logan Kuehne and freshman Isabella Wilhelm took gold (1:42.67) while the B team of senior Suvana Baskar, freshman Chloe Diner, seniors Sydney Stoll and Laurel Bludgen took silver (1:42.76).
Duran won the all-or-nothing 100 breaststroke super final (1:03.82) where each team enters their top swimmers and the winner earns five team points. Stoll won the 100 butterfly super final (55.63).
Sophomore Liv Dorshorst won her first race of the season in the 1000 freestyle (10:17.26). Freshman Maggie Adler also recorded her first event win of the season in the 100 freestyle (52.43).
Junior Sara Jass touched second in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.81). Paduano earned silver in 100 backstroke (57.52) and Baskar took the bronze (57.53) while Wilhelm captured second in the 100 freestyle (52.57).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Bludgen, Jass, Adler and Wilhelm closed out day one with a second-place finish (3:27.48).
ON THE BOARDS
The Orange and Blue sophomore divers swept the top-4 positions in tonight's event of the one-meter dive. Dani O'Kelly earned first place with a score of 262.05, Bethany Mercer followed in second (258.60), Matilda Garcia claimed bronze (253.95) and Elle Crisostomo placed fourth on a score of 229.43.
