Opening Tips

• Illinois begins a stretch of four games in nine days Saturday at No. 14 Indiana. (11 a.m. CT, ESPN).

• Illinois is 4-2 against ranked opponents this season. The Illini have won 15 of their last 23 games vs. Top 25 teams, including three straight (vs. No. 2 Texas-Dec. 6, No. 14 Wisconsin-Jan. 7, No. 24 Rutgers-Feb. 11).

• Illinois has won eight of its last 11 games, compiling four- and three-game win streaks during this stretch.

• Illinois has won two straight in Bloomington, winning at Assembly Hall in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2009 and 2010. Illinois has not won three in a row at Indiana since 1988-1989-1990.

• Illinois is coming off a 93-81 defeat at Penn State. The Illini have bounced back with a win following each of its previous seven losses this season. Illinois has not lost consecutive games since Jan. 17-21, 2022.

• Illinois is the Big Ten's winningest team in league play over the last four years, with 52 total wins and 23 road wins.

• Illinois leads the Big Ten and ranks third in the country in blocked shots, averaging 5.8 bpg. The Illini's current total of 145 blocks is just 18 away from breaking the school single-season record of 162, set in 1978-79.

• Illinois has allowed an average of just 59.0 points (472) in its Big Ten wins, holding all eight opponents below the 70-point mark. The Illini have given up an average of 78.7 points (472) in its Big Ten losses, however, with all six opponents topping 70 points.

• All eight of Illinois' Big Ten wins have been by at least nine points.

• Illinois is the lone Big Ten team and one of just nine teams with multiple kenpom top-10 wins this season. The Illini are the only team in the country with two kenpom top-10 non-conference wins away from home, beating No. 3 UCLA in Las Vegas and No. 8 Texas in New York City.

• Illinois has three AP top-15 wins this season (No. 2 Texas, No. 8 UCLA and No. 14 Wisconsin), which leads the Big Ten along with Northwestern, and is tied for eighth-most nationally.

• Illinois has outrebounded 21 of 25 opponents, including 12 of 14 teams during Big Ten play. The Illini rank second in the Big Ten and No. 20 in the NCAA with a 5.9 average rebound margin.

• Illinois is 15-0 when holding opponents to less than one-point-per-possession, and 2-8 when allowing more than one-point-per-possession.

• Terrence Shannon Jr. is the only power conference player – and one of just 13 nationally – averaging at least 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal on the season.

• Illinois has three players ranked in the top 10 of the B1G in blocks, Dain Dainja (5th, 1.3 bpg), Coleman Hawkins (6th, 1.2 bpg) and Matthew Mayer (9th, 1.2 bpg).

Ayo a Rising Star

Former Illini All-American point guard and current Chicago Bull Ayo Dosunmu has been named to the 2023 Jordan Rising Stars roster as part of NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City. Dosunmu is currently averaging 9.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in his second year with the Bulls.

The rising stars game is set for Friday at 8 p.m. CT on TNT. Dosunmu is on the Team Deron roster, with former Illini All-American point guard, longtime NBA star, and two-time Olympic gold medalist Deron Williams serving as honorary coach.
