Iowa City, IOWA – The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team finished their first of two days in their duel against Iowa on Friday, January 13, highlighted by first place finishes by freshman Liv Dorshorst and sophomore Sydney Stoll.
Between The Lanes
Sophomore Molly Yetter, junior Sophia Burwitz, senior Mariclaire Lynch, and junior Anna Kurzydlo kicked off the action for the Illini, placing second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:37.69. Dorshorst and junior Cara Bognar delivered a one-two punch for the Orange and Blue in the 1650 final with times of 16:37.75 and 16:52.23, respectively. Dorshorst's time was the second-fastest time in school history in the event while Bognar's was ninth fastest in school history.
In the 200 individual medley finals, the Illini saw a sweep in order of Stoll (2:03.52), freshman Sara Jass (2:03.58), sophomore Jane Umhofer (2:08.75).
Dorshorst again inserted herself into another all-time list with another record-breaking performance in the 1000Â freestyle, where she finished with the second-fastest time in school history with a 10:02.88.
In the 400Â medley relay, a pair of Illini relay teams found themselves on the podium. Senior Athena Salafatinos, Â senior Kaleigh Haworth, freshman Alexis Wendel, and junior Laurel Bludgen finished second (3:48.01) while sophomore Suvana Baskar, Jass, Burwitz, and Stoll finished third (3:52.41).
On The Boards
Junior Taylor Michael placed 3rd in the platform diving final with a score of 211.25, good for 8th all-time on the Illini leaderboards.
