MIAMI, Fla. – The Fighting Illini swim and dive team finished day one of their two-day meet at Florida International University (FIU) on Friday, Nov. 4. The Illini currently trail in the contest 117.5-106.5. Day two will begin tomorrow Saturday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. CT.
BETWEEN THE LANES
Freshman Liv Dorshorst continues to improve on her 500 freestyle mark, she came in first place with a time of 4:53.56. She finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:53.97). Freshman Sara Jass notched two personal-best times as well. She earned second in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.95) and 200 IM (2:04.87).
Senior Isabelle Guerra claimed first in the 50 freestyle (23.74) followed by junior Laurel Bludgen (24.02). Junior Cara Bognar topped the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.52. She finished third in the 500 freestyle (4:58). Senior Kaleigh Haworth placed second in the 50 breaststroke (29.86) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.57).
In the 100 backstroke senior Athena Salafatinos topped all others (58.05) followed right by sophomore Suvana Baskar (58.12). Senior Sydney Stoll finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.84) and third in the 200 IM (2:05.41).
ON THE BOARDS
Platform diving was the only slated diving event for day one. Senior Erin Young placed fifth (164.55), junior Taylor Michael sixth (154.13), freshman Abby Manos seventh (150) and sophomore Hannah Hong (134.03).
