Illini Swim Poised for Mid-Year Tournament

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini swimming and diving program is set to travel to Iowa City, Iowa for their mid-year tournament. The meet begins on Thursday, Dec. 1 and runs until Saturday, Dec. 3 with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. CT each day. This is the first meet in about a month for the orange and blue, they boast a 5-1 record.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
There will be five other teams competing at the meet with two competing in diving only (Iowa State and Northern Iowa). The host team of Iowa brings in a record of 1-2, (0-2 B1G) to the match, Nebraska is 5-2, (1-1 B1G), Rutgers is 2-2, (1-0 B1G).
LAST MEET
Illinois is coming off a big win against FIU on Nov. 5. They won the contest 229.5-218.5 after a big comeback on day two outscoring them 123-101. Junior Taylor Michael led the Illini on the one-meter dive with a third-place finish (279.15). Freshman Abby Manos continues to make an impact, she placed third on the three-meter (264.5)
Sophomore Suvana Baskar led the way in the 50 backstroke (26.61). Senior Sydney Stoll won the 100 IM (57.85) and the 200 backstroke (2:04.91).
