CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois swimming and diving team heads to Madison, Wisconsin, this weekend to compete in a double dual meet against Wisconsin and Northwestern. The meet is set for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. CT at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Illini improved to 1-1 on the season with a 164-136 win over Nebraska. The Orange and Blue got off to a great start in the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. From that point, freshman Cara Bognar earned three individual first place finishes, while junior Abigail Cabush and freshman Lily Olson received two top finishes apiece. Illinois sealed the team victory with a win in the 400 freestyle relay.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
The Badgers come into this weekend with a 2-0 record this season. They picked up a double dual meet win against Minnesota (163-133) and Purdue (191.5-104.5) on Jan. 23 in the inaugural meet at their new aquatic center.
Illinois and Wisconsin are facing off head-to-head for the first time since Jan. 27-28, 2006. Wisconsin won that battle, 260-93. The Badgers hold an 18-6 all-time record against the Fighting Illini.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Northwestern enters Saturday with a 2-2 record on the season. After dropping their first two meets of the season in the first weekend to Indiana and Michigan, the Wildcats rebounded the next weekend with strong wins against Iowa (225-75) and Penn State (242-58).
Dating back to the 1975-76 season, Northwestern carries a 23-7 record over Illinois, including victories in each of the last 12 matchups.
