CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois swimming and diving team opens its abbreviated season this week with a double dual meet on Saturday, January 16. The team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on Purdue and Michigan State at 1 p.m. CT. It will be the first action for the swimming and diving team since the NCAA Championships were cancelled in March due to COVID-19.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue heads into Saturday's meet with an all-time series dual record of 23-7 against the Fighting Illini. The last dual meet came on February 1-2, 2013 in Madison, Wisc., where the Boilermakers came out with a 268-85 advantage.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Fighting Illini lead the all-time series against the Spartans, 19-10-1, which dates all the way back to the programs first meeting during the 1976-77 season. The Illini have dominated the series recently, winning 10 of the last 12 meetings between the two schools. The last time these two teams squared off on October 19, 2019, MSU hosted the Illini in a matchup that ended in a 150-150 tie. Despite the tie, Illinois earned victories in 10 of 16 events on that day.
