IOWA CITY, Iowa. – The University of Illinois swimming and diving team fell to Iowa (223-86) and Notre Dame (244-56) in a double dual meet on Saturday inside Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City, Iowa. Freshmen Kaleigh Haworth and Erin Young each set a season-best in their events.

"Coming off 12 days on the road we stepped up to the challenge of competing against some really strong teams," said head coach Sue Novitsky. "We put in some great work and as a team we are in a good place.Ā  Of course, we would have liked to come home with a win, but people were making some of the changes that we have been focusing on the past couple weeks."

In the pool, senior Kristin Anderson claimed the silver in the 50 freestyle and bronze in 100 freestyle, with times of :23.60 and :51.84, respectively.

Freshman Athena Salafatinos placed third for the Fighting Illini in the 100 backstroke with a time of :56.53 and came away with fourth-place with a time of 2:00.88 in the 200 backstroke.

Freshman Divya Kale also finished fourth and sixth in her respective events. The Naperville, Ill., native swam a time of 1:04.97 in the 100 breaststroke and a time of 2:23.84 in the 200 breaststroke Freshman Kaleigh Haworth recorded a personal-best time of 2:22.87 in the 200 breaststroke to touch the wall in fifth place.

The 200 medley relay team of redshirt senior Aby Olson, Kale, Salafatinos and Anderson totaled a time of 3:31.85 to finish in third, while the 400 freestyle relay team, membered by sophomore Abigail Cabush, Anderson, freshman Isabelle Guerra and junior Emma Curtis swam for a combined time of 3:31.85 to place third in the event.

On the Boards

Freshman Erin Young posted a person-best score of 256.95 in the three-meter dive to take eighth. The Dana Point, Calif., native also earned a score of 232.15 in the platform dive event, that was not officially scored, and is a qualifying NCAA Zone Diving score.

Sophomore Taylor Shegos finished seventh with a total of 285.85 in the three-meter, while sophomore Madelyn Crosby earned a score of 243.05.

In the one-meter dive, Crosby recorded a six-dive total of 256.90, Shegos scored a 228.70 and junior Erin Emme totaled a 205.60, to take ninth, 10th and 11th-place, respectively.

The Orange and Blue travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face off against Nebraska on Saturday, Jan. 25. Meet action is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
