CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois swimming team will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., for the three-day House of Champions Invitational, hosted by IUPUI, Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24. The meet will mark the first preliminary/finals style meet for the Illini this season, and the second consecutive year the Orange and Blue will be competing at the annual event at the IUPUI Natatorium.
"We are looking forward to some great competition at the House of Champions Invitational," said head coach Sue Novitsky. "There are going to be a lot of teams at the meet, so we need to make sure that we are mentally sharp and engaged each session. This will be a great test for the team to have to race in prelims to earn their spot in finals. The team has been putting in some great training the past two weeks and they are definitely ready to race again."
Along with IUPUI, the Fighting Illini will compete against Butler, Cincinnati, Eastern Illinois, Green Bay, UIC, Indiana, UIndy, Michigan State and Western Illinois.
Each day will be broken up into a morning and evening session. Morning sessions begin at 9 am CT. On Friday and Saturday, evening sessions are set to begin at 5 pm CT, while Sunday's evening session is set for 4 pm CT. Each session holds a mix of preliminary and finals events. All evening sessions will be streamed on ESPN 3.
Next Up
The House of Champions Invitational marks the final team competition of 2019, as the Illini won't compete again until January 11, against both Iowa and Notre Dame in Iowa City, Iowa. However, select swimmers will have the opportunity to compete at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships in Atlanta, Ga., Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 7.
