
Wrestling Travels to Lindenwood Open Saturday

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini wrestling travels back to Missouri for the Lindenwood Open in Saint Charles, Mo. tomorrow. This is the team's second tournament of the season, as the Illini had six individuals win titles in their respective brackets at the Maryville Open on Nov. 10.

*Lindenwood is the second of four regular season tournaments for the Orange and Blue. The team will head to the Cliff Keen Invite on Nov. 30-Dec. 1, and will take part in the Midlands Championships on Dec. 29-30.
Sizing Up the Competition
37 teams will compete along with the Illini at Lindenwood. Six ranked opponents are ranked in the Nov. 12 Trackwrestsling rankings: No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Iowa, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Missouri, No. 15 Northwestern and #19 Wisconsin. The Fighting Illini enter the tournament ranked No. 16.
Last Time Out
The Illini had six wrestlers win titles in their respective weight classes at the Maryville Open last weekend in Saint Louis. Freshman Justin Cardani (125 Amateur, Unattached), redshirt freshman Johnny Mologousis (157 Elite), freshman Danny Braunagel (165 Elite, Unattached), freshman Zac Braunagel (174 Elite, unattached), redshirt senior Andre Lee (197 Elite) and redshirt senior Deuce Rachal (Elite HWT) took first-place. Additionally in the elite brackets, redshirt junior Carver James (174) and redshirt fresman Matt Wroblewski (197) wrestled to third-place finishes, while redshirt freshman Josh Contreras (125), junior Brian Burns (197) and redshirt senior Nick Gasbarro placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Illini to Watch
184: Emery Parker
Parker returns for his final campaign with the Illini, ranking second in five different preseason rankings. The Wadsworth, Ill. native was an All-American last season after placing third in the 184-pound bracket at NCAA Championships. Parker finished last season with a 28-4 record, and that winning percentage of .875 was good for the 24th best win percentage in Illinois history. He won his first and only matchup of the season in a in a 5-3 dec. over Missouri's Dylan Wisman at the Grapple in the Grove on Nov. 3.
165: Joey Gunther
Redshirt junior Joey Gunther transferred to Illinois from Iowa after last season. He ranked No. 17 in intermat's preseason rankings, but has since moved up to No. 14 after upsetting then-No. 14 Connor Flynn of Missouri in a 4-1 dec. at Grapple in the Grove. Gunther is 1-0 on the season.

The Fighting Illini travel west for the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Competition will begin at 11 a.m. CT on both Friday and Saturday.
