CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team will travel south to Carbondale, Ill., to take on both Southern Illinois and Illinois State on Saturday, October 20. Meet competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.

The three schools have met for double-dual meets in each of the last four years, with Illinois holding a record of 6-2 in those meetings. The only two defeats came a year ago, as UI came up short to both the Redbirds (155-143) and Salukis (176.50-123.50) in Normal, Ill.

Southern Illinois

SIU enters the weekend following a narrow, 152-146, loss to McKendree a week ago. In the pool, the Salukis were led by 2018 First-Team All-MVC honoree, Samantha Parsons, who posted the top times in both the 100 breaststroke (1:07.07) and 200 breaststroke (2:32.89). Parsons also swam a leg on the fastest 200 medley relay team that kicked off the meet with a time of 1:48.89.

The Salukis also took both diving events at the meet, as Beibei Ji topped all scores in both 1-meter (298.12) and 3-meter diving (306.22).

Illinois State

Despite a 164.5-135.5 loss to Indiana State a week ago, the Redbirds got a strong performance from Kierston Farley-Sepe, who earned first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (:57.52), 200 butterfly (2:04.23) and 500 freestyle (5:08.39). The performance earned her Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week honors.

On the boards, the Redbirds took the top two spots in 1-meter competition, as Caroline Leceour scored a 253.28 to win the event and Emily Aument tallied a 245.02 to place second. Leceour also placed second on 3-meter, finishing with a score of 256.57.
