Final Results
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The third-ranked Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team came up big on Saturday, posting the top overall team score in the nation (412.500) en route to a 412.500-405.900 victory over No. 2 Penn State. Junior Alex Diab led the way for the Orange and Blue, winning event titles on both floor exercise (14.800) and still rings (14.700).Â
"The team had a great meet with an 80 percent hit ratio, head coach Justin Spring said. "I am very proud of these guys for putting up the highest score in the NCAA this year." Â
After a slow start on pommel horse, the Illini responded with a season-best performance on floor exercise (71.400). Junior Alex Diab (14.800), sophomore Sebastian Quiana (14.500) and senior Bobby Baker (14.400) posted the top-three scores of the meet on the event, respectively.Â
UI continued its strong showing in the next rotation, posting a season-high vault score of 71.850. Jacob Light won the event with a 14.850, followed by Bobby Baker with a 14.600. In third place was freshman Max Diab, who scored a 14.400 on his first career vault attempt.Â
The Illini also posted season-high team scores on still rings (70.300) and parallel bars (67.400). Alex Diab won the event title on still rings with a score of 14.700, while Bobby Baker finished second with a 14.650. Junior Johnny Jacobson finished with the top parallel bars score for the Illini, posting a 14.100 in the event. Â
