Champaign, Ill. - The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team will welcome Nebraska to the ARC Pool for senior day, as well as its annual Splash Bash on Saturday, January 21. The meet will mark the end of the regular season Illinois who currently hold a 7-4 record.
"The team is gearing up for our final dual meet this Saturday," said head coach Sue Novitsky. "Nebraska is another quality opponent that is going to be a great challenge for the team. We have been training hard in the pool and weight room. In addition, we have been focusing on staying together as a team, when we have done that we have been the most successful this year."
The Illini came up short against Nebraska a year ago in Lincoln, losing by a score of 162-138. The two teams have been a close match dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, as the schools have split the head-to-head series 3-3.
Prior to Saturday's meet, Audrey Rodawig, Amelia Schilling and Gabbie Stecker will be honored in a senior day presentation.
"This will be the last home competition for our three seniors," said Novitsky. "They have put in a lot of work over the years and have stepped up in leading the team athletically, academically and in the community. I am very proud to see them having fun, being engaged in the team and still striving for their top performances."
Promotions for Saturday, January 21 vs. Nebraska at 11 a.m.
The Illini will host its annual Splash Bash, as all in attendance will have the opportunity to take part in a carnival themed celebration, which includes face painting, cookie decorating, as well as taking part in a pie eating contest and getting autographs from the athletes.
