CARBONDALE, Ill. -
The Fighting Illini swimming and diving team won its second meet in as many days, defeating host Southern Illinois, 154-89 at Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium. The Orange and Blue swiped seven of 13 events to improve to 6-1 on the year, while the Salukis fall to 3-1.
The Illini swept both relays as the team of CeCe Marizu, Amy Johnson, Brittany McGowan, and Kristen Manias took first place in the 400 medley relay (4:55.64), while Meghan Mason, Erin Lamb, Anna Johnson and Manias won the 400 free relay (3:32.53).
"The depth of our team gave us a big advantage over Southern Illinois," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "Even if they (Southern Illinois) won an event, we were right behind them in second and third place. It was good to see a lot of people stepping up throughout the lineup."
Manias picked up her third victory of the day in the 50 free (24.25), while Marizu won her second event in the 200 back (2:05.94) and Jen Ivarson placed first in the 200 fly (2:05.94).
On the boards, Lauren Wismer took first place in the one-meter with a score of 274.87 and also won the three-meter with a score of 286.42. Britni Fisher grabbed second-place finishes in both the one-meter (259.34) and three-meter (253.25) dives, while Tessa Adams placed third in the one-meter (227.99).
"The divers did extremely well today, going one-two on the three-meter and one-two-three on the one-meter," Novitsky said. "It was good to have strong finishes on the boards."
The Orange and Blue will take a few weeks off before heading to Oxford, Ohio, to compete in the Miami Invitational beginning Friday, Dec. 4.
