Ames, Iowa - The University of Illinois Swimming and Diving team had their first taste of the road on Friday and came away unscathed as they moved to 3-0 on the young season defeating Iowa State 150-91. Sophomore Barbie Viney and Senior Kirsten Koepcke were the Illini's two multiple individual winners.

"This was a good test for us tonight because coming into tonight we were both pretty even," said Novitsky about the matchup with the Cyclones. "I thought our girls showed a lot of heart tonight and were very enthusiacstic and behind everybody on every swim. We've been preaching to train the way you want to perform and it showed tonight."

The Illini jumped out to a great start by winning the 400 medley relay. The group of Meghan Farrell, Trisha Lakatos, Caroline Moore and Michelle Grandcolas swam to a mark of 3:56.53, beating out the team of Meghan Bradley, Becca Poetz, Kathryn Easey and Koepcke who finished third with a time of 4:04.59. The Orange and Blue also grabbed the final relay of the night, the 200 free relay with the team of Viney, Poetz, Christina Brunka and Farrell with a time of 1:36.62.

Viney grabbed the 50 and 100 free with times of 23.89 and 51.40 respectively. The senior Koepcke took the 200 and 500 free as part of her double win as she touched the wall in 1:55.08 and 5:03.04 respectively. Lakatos, who continues to swim solid finished with another great great swim in the 200 breast in 2:21.40. Freshman Mallory Craft was the only other Illini winner, as she captured the 200 back in 2:06.94.

The divers enjoyed a strong showing despite finishing third and fourth in both the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions. Sophomore Jackie Bain finished third in the 3-meter dive as she posted a score of 208.94, just ahead of teammate and freshman Abbey Bernado, who scored a 175.95. In the 1-meter dive Bain finished third with 202.49, while Bernado claimed fourth place with 193.64.

Illinois continues its travel as they visit the Kansas Jayhawks tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST.
