
Second-Ranked Illini Take UCLA Invitational Title

LOS ANGELES --The University of Illinois men's gymnastics team improved to 13-2 overall after taking the UCLA Invitational title on Thursday. The No. 2 Illini scored a 213.20 defeating No. 7 California (209.40), No. 11 Stanford (205.175), No. 16 Santa Barbara (201.30), No. 20 Arizona State (188.30) and Washington (167.50).
Sophomore Scott Wetterling scored a personal best of 9.60 to win the individual title on the high bar. He also took second on the vault with a score of 9.3 en route to finishing second in the all around with a total score of 52.550.
Illinois' other first place finish came from senior J.G. Ketchen. He took the individual title on the parallel bars with a score of 9.00. Other top Illinois performances came from freshman Peter Shostchuk and senior Sean-Paul Crawford. Shostchuk scored a 9.20 on his pommel horse routine to finish second. Crawford tied for fourth with a vault of 9.2.
The Illini hope to continue their winning ways as their west coast swing takes them to Santa Barbara on Saturday to face the 16th-ranked Gauchos and No. 11 Stanford.
