Cross Country Preps for Postseason at Iowa State

The men's and women's cross country squads both competed at the Pre-NCAA Meet at Iowa State University this afternoon, the women placing 22nd (692 total points) and the men 44th (1102 total points) in what was for both teams the largest meet in the nation this season with over 60 teams competing and 15 of the nation's top 25 men's and women's programs in attendance.
Illinois' top finisher among the women was Cecelia Williams, who was 50th in a time of 22:07.1 over the 6K course, while Ryan Eason paced the men, placing 160th over the 10K course in a time of 32:49.0.
BYU won the women's race with 117 total points, followed by Stanford (151), Wisconsin (189), Arizona State (241) and Colorado (251). Colorado (64) won the men's race, followed by Northern Arizona (215), Stanford (255), BYU (310) and Georgetown (313).
The Illinois women were paced by underclassmen, as Williams, a sophomore, was followed up in the team scoring by sophomore Amber Hunt (100th, 222:34.8), freshman Marcy Bice (150th, 23:03.9), freshman Erin Frakes (194th, 23:27.3) and freshman Breanna Wabick (234th, 23:58.5).
Among the men, Eason was followed by Mike Lucchesi (227th, 33:23.6), Dan Horyn (229th, 33:24.6), Tim Seiwert (249th, 33:37.2) and Caleb Grinter (266th, 33:50.9).
Both teams return to action on Oct. 29 when the Big Ten Championships are held at Wisconsin.
