Kanzler returns to his alma mater in his first season as the director of player development for the 2024-25 season. He spent the last two seasons (2022-24) as a volunteer assistant coach.

Prior to his time as a coach Kanzler wrestled for the Fighting Illini from 2018-22 at 149 pounds. In his final season he compiled a 12-11 record as the full time starter. He won his first match in the Orange and Blue against Michigan State's Jaden Enriquez.

Before coming to Illinois he spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons at Lincoln College where he was the 2018 JUCO 141 pound runner-up. He was named to 2018 NJCAA Second-Team All-America honors and 2017 NJCAA honorable mention All-American.
