Four Illini Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Four Fighting Illini men's golfers – Max Herendeen, Trey Marrion, Freddie Turnell, and Ryan Voois – were honored as NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for the 2025-26 season. The announcement was made Monday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
It marks the third All-America Scholar nod for Voois, a senior finance major and honors scholar in the Gies College of Business. Herendeen a junior advertising major, earned his second.
Voois and Herendeen were tabbed as first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees last month. Herendeen, Marrion, and Voois, also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors this season, with Voois and Marrion each earning the added distinction of Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
For the 2025-26 academic year, 649 NCAA Division I athletes from 210 schools were honored.
Illinois has produced multiple honorees in each of the last eight seasons dating back to the 2018-19 academic year. In all, 25 different Fighting Illini have now earned 48 All-America Scholar awards from the GCAA in program history, with 21 golfers garnering 42 of those nods under the guidance of head coach Mike Small.
