
All-American Townsend Transfers Into Illinois Track and Field

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois director or track, field and cross country Petros Kyprianou announced the addition of All-American triple jumper Skylynn Townsend to his team on Friday (June 5).
Townsend makes her way to Champaign after spending her first two seasons at Georgia where she was a two-time All-American and an SEC Champion. She recently earned All-America honors at the 2026 Indoor Championships and leaped 13.50m (44-3 1/2) at the SEC Indoor Championships to win gold. In her freshman season, she placed sixth at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships to become an All-American, 13.52m (44-4 1/4).
Prior to college she was the 2023-24 Texas Track & Field Gatorade Player of the Year, a four-time Nike National Champion and a four-time Texas State Champion. She owns current personal bests of 13.67m (44-10 1/4) in the triple jump and 6.34m (20-9 1/2) in the long jump.
