CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini men's gymnastics student-athletes Connor Micklos and Preston Ngai earned Academic All-District recognition from College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Ngai claimed CSC Academic All-District status for the second consecutive season, while Micklos is a first-time honoree.
To be eligible for the recognition, a nominee must have at least a 3.50 GPA and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Nominees must also be ranked in the top 75 in an event within their division, according to Road to Nationals rankings, and/or have competed at their divisional national championship event.
Micklos competed on pommel horse, still rings, and parallel bars in his final collegiate campaign for the Fighting Illini in 2026. After posting his two best pommel horse scores of the season at the NCAA Championships in his last collegiate meet, he earned his bachelor's degree in advertising in May.
Ngai, now a back-to-back Academic All-District honoree, earned All-America status once again as a junior in 2026. An All-American on still rings and all-around and a CGA Regular Season All-American on pommel horse, Ngai finished eighth on both rings and all-around at the NCAA Championships. He is pursuing a degree in computer science.
