Yakushina Signs with Illinois Track and Field

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois director of track, field and cross country Petros Kyprianou announced the addition of All-American transfer Sofia Yakushina to the team on Monday (June 1).
Yakushina has accumulated some notable accolades in a short time in her collegiate career. She owns the NCAA freshman heptathlon record with her personal-best score of 6,260 points which would be the Illinois school record by nearly 300 points. During her record breaking freshman campaign in 2025 she won SEC Outdoor Freshman Field Athlete of the Year honors.
She's also a three-time All-American in the combined events (two in the pentathlon, one heptathlon), a SEC Champion in the heptathlon, SEC silver medalist in the pentathlon and SEC bronze medalist in the long jump.
