FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Illinois men's track and field team completed their NCAA West Preliminaries on Friday (May 29) from John McDonnell Field. Jonathan Kapitolnik and Viktor Morozov each punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Kapitolnik advanced to the national meet in the high jump after he cleared 2.20m (7-2 1/2) to place securely inside the top-12. The freshman won the Big Ten title a couple weeks ago and now has his sights set on the national title in two weeks. It's now the fourth-consecutive season that an Illini men's high jumper has qualified to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Morozov is headed to his third-consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championships in the triple jump after he leaped 16.08m (52-9 1/4) today to place inside the top-12 and advance. The current Big Ten triple jump silver medalist will aim to get his first All-America honors in Eugene, Ore.
NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
- Jonathan Kapitolnik – high jump, 2.20m (7-2 1/2)
- Viktor Morozov – triple jump, 16.08m (52-9 1/4)
