URBANA, Ill. – No. 11 Illinois improved its winning streak to eight matches, taking down Washington, 4-0, on Sunday at Atkins Tennis Center.
During that eight-match stretch, the Illini have won the doubles point in each of those contests. That trend continued for the Orange and Blue as they grabbed the point with wins on Courts 2 and 3. William Mroz and Hayden Jones got the action started with a 6-2 win over Daniel Bien and Nikola Plavsic of Washington. Zach Viiala and Sasha Colleu would soon follow with a 6-3 victory to secure the 1-0 lead for the Illini.Â
Illinois continued its dominance into singles play, winning all six first sets. Jeremy Zhang was first to strike, defeating Washington's Daniel Bien 6-2, 6-3, on Court 6. Mroz would soon follow that up with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Stephane Kamendje on Court 2.Â
Colleu closed it out for the Illini with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Rohan Belday to give Illinois the 4-0 sweep.Â
