CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 7 Illinois men's gymnastics is slated to host No. 9 Navy and No. 10 Greenville at Huff Hall on Saturday at 12 p.m. The meet is free and open to the public, while the three-team event will stream on B1G+. 

Last Saturday Tate Costa, Preston Ngai, and Garrett Schooley represented the Illini at the 2026 Winter Cup in Louisville, Ky. Schooley delivered a standout performance, capturing the vault title with a career-high of 14.571.  Ngai added an impressive fifth-place finish in the all-around and earned second on pommel horse with a 14.308. Costa contributed a strong 12.950 on floor and added a 13.150 on vault. 

The last time out as a team, the Illinois men's gymnastics team fell to reigning national champion and No. 4-ranked Michigan on Feb. 7. Despite several standout individual performances, the Illini couldn't keep pace with the Wolverine squad that took the lead early and maintained momentum through the final rotation. Schooley, Nathan Whitaker, and Sam Philips each captured event titles for Illinois, with Schooley leading the vault (14.550) and Dylan Shepard contributing a strong 13.700. Whitaker anchored the floor with a team-high 14.250, Phillips closed out the meet with a 13.800 on high bar. Connor Micklos paced the Illini on pommel horse with a 13.300. 

ABOUT GREENVILLE 

No. 10 Greenville traveled to Nebraska, finishing second out of four teams with a season-high score of 309.400. Greenville dominated the meet with consistent performances, posting their strongest team totals on vault (53.350) and pommel horse (52.550). Junior Andres Esquivel-Garza earned third place on pommel horse with a 13.500, while Logan Watterson secured second on vault with a standout 14.150.

ABOUT NAVY

Last time out, No. 9 Navy men's gymnastics won the 2026 All-Academy Championship, narrowly edging Air Force with a 310.150-310.100 and Army finishing third with a 310.60. Junior Benjamin Thurlow Lam led the team on floor with a career-high 14.100, while seniors Matthew Petros and Colby Prince and juniors Daniel Gurevich, Garrett Lawless, and Boone Washburn all contributed top finishes across events. Navy posted season-highs on floor (55.450) and parallel bars (49.400) and held their lead through the final rotation with Washburn's 13.250 on high bar sealing the victory.
