INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 1 women's and No. 18 men's track and field teams finished the first day of the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Thursday (Feb. 26) from the Fall Creek Pavilion. Meagan Humphries set a new Big Ten Indoor Championships and school record pentathlon in her win today with 4,459 points. Her teammate, JaiCieonna Gero-Holt, was the silver medalist with the school's second-best score of 4,400 points.

"First let me say wow; what a day Meagan had I'm so proud of her," exclaimed director of track, field and cross country Petros Kyprianou. "That is exactly what we talk about all season long showing up to these big meets and attacking from the jump. She did that from start to finish today with a PR in all five events and deserves to be the Big Ten Champion. JaiCieonna did amazing as well finishing right behind Meagan with them both combining for 18 team points for us. Mia battled in a very tough pole vault competition and I'm happy to see her medal and stand on that podium. We still have a lot of work to do these next two days, but today was a good start to get us where we want to go."

Humphries didn't waste any time making her presence known as she set a new personal best in all five events: 60mH (8.46), high jump [1.76m (5-9 1/4)], shot put [11.69m [38-4 1/4]), long jump [6.30m (20-8)] and 800m (2:12.99). Her 4,459-point total is not only the meet and school record but the current national leader heading into the NCAA Indoor Championships.

She becomes the programs first pentathlon Big Ten Champion (fifth individual in program history) in 24 years since Camee' Williams last won it back in 2002. In addition to her school record, her long jump of 6.30m is the eighth-best mark in school history.

Gero-Holt was the runner-up in the pentathlon with her 4,400 points which is the current No. 3 mark in the NCAA for 2026. She matched her personal best in the high jump leaping 1.88m (6-2) and won the shot put as well throwing 13.50m (44-3 1/2).

Mia Morello earned a bronze medal in the pole vault today when she cleared 4.45m (14-7 1/4) on her third and final attempt to earn her first Big Ten Indoor Championships medal. After day one the women's team is in third place with 24 points.

Over on the men's side, Andreas Hantson sits in second place in the heptathlon with 3,171 points while Tim Pelkmans resides in eighth place with 2,959 points.
